Which of these Latin/Ballroom dances is the hardest to learn?

30th May

I’m a 24 year old guy that started going for dance lesson because I’m tried of just sitting there like a party pooper at parties. The dance studio I go to teaches several different types of Latin/Ballroom dances. So far, they taught me the basics of the Merengue, Rumba, and Swing. For just one lesson, I was happy the way I was learning and I feel this is something I can be real good at.

So, now to my question….

I would like to be prepared and know which dance will be the most difficult to learn. Below is a list of the 11 Latin/Ballroom Dances that this dance studio teaches. Which one is the hardest to learn?

1. Rumba
2. Tango
3. Samba
4. Mambo/Salsa
5. Cha Cha
6. Merengue
7. Bossa Nova
8. Waltz
9. Fox Trot
10. Swing
11. Hustle

If you’re talking expertise, foxtrot is notoriously difficult. But learning social foxtrot enough to be competent isn’t so difficult. Also, you’ll find that each of the Standard/smooth dances reinforces the others, and each of the Latin/rhythm dances reinforces the others. It’s pretty daunting for a beginner, but it won’t be long before you get to the point at which you wonder why you even asked.

“Casino style” Salsa dancing — Chinese man with Cuban woman

28th May

I can’t even remember where I first saw this clip, but it’s from a Cuban television show called “Para Bailar Casino.” This particular style of Salsa dancing had usually been unique to Cuba and Miami, but is starting to spread slowly to wherever Salsa dancing happens around the world. So, it’s still fairly rare to see a Chinese guy (or any non-Cuban) who is this skilled at casino style Salsa. He has plenty of moves but, more importantly, he captures the fun spirit of the dance. The crowd obviously responds well, as you see them stand up and cheer!

In the video clip, there is a caption saying the name of the Chinese man is “You Fei Huo,” but apparently his real name is Yaofei Huo. For us English speakers, he goes by “David” Huo. :-) He teaches in Beijing, China at a place called Casa De David, and his website is:

http://www.huoyaofei.com/english/index.asp

(For more information on him, click the link on that webpage that says “Team”)

I wish I knew the name of the female dancer but, unfortunately, I don’t. :-(

The song to which they are dancing is called “Esto Te Pone La Cabeza Mala” by Los Van Van.

Latin dance-Tango lessons?

27th May

I want to start latin dance lessons..i love how sexy salsa and mambo are..how passionate tango is..so i was wondering…what should i wear for my first lesson? can i wear leggings and a top,do i need to wear skirt-dresses? and what about heels…latin dances need heels and i feel comfortable dancing with them…should i put them on? p.s i really worry about the fact that there gonna be only girls to the lessons..do boys go to latin-tango lessons? i mean to dance tango u need to have a partner and chemistry..thanks a lot!

My advice is to wear something simple and comfortable. You can wear heels or not, but either way I think it’s a good idea to wear leather-soled shoes because they are easy to pivot; sneakers or other rubber-soled shoes don’t pivot easily and that will make your knees and ankles tired.

The problem with getting males to take dance lessons is really eternal. Encourage your male friends to come to lessons, although be advised that many will take it as a sign that you are interested in them. (I know this because as a man I am always wishfully thinking that some woman is interested in me; sorry, we just can’t help it!) So maybe you should talk to boys who are not interested in you. Also, be encouraging to the ones who do show up for lessons, so that they will come back.

One little remark about tango. While it is true that tango is better if there is chemistry, it is not really required. I would say that something more like friendship or affection is required, but not passion. Also, dance with as many people as possible. If you have just one partner, you get stuck where you can only dance well with that one person.

Don’t worry too much about details before you get started, you can figure it out as you go aong. Just jump right in and get started! Have fun!

Heigan Dancing Lesson

26th May

Heigan Dancing Lesson by Trindade
http://www.warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=30416

Well, it suprised me that loads of comments were made on this video, so I decided to make a detail description about this.

First of all, sorry for my bad English.

As some of you may have already guessed, this video is not originally made by me. It first published on WCM about 2 years ago. I learned a lot from this video when my guild struggled in Naxx 40. I noticed that there were no Heigan video on youtube, so I uploaded it in case that one day I lost this video.

In TBC and early WotLK, I totally forgot it (no one found this, either). When I finally realized that someone found and learned a lot from this video, I was both happy and worry. It good to see this video actually help others, but it my bad not having declared who created this video. I sincerely hope Trindade won’t mind this.

I’m not sure if this is against YouTube rule or not, I’ll delete this if it does.

Have fun in Naxx!

In this episode of Addicted2Salsa Dance Lesson ( http://addicted2salsa.com/2009/05/01/mambo-styled-salsa-dance-moves/ ) show, we travel a bit to the East Coast in order to show you a very common and popular move to do at the salsa dance nightclub.
